Hello Youthgasers,
Today kicks off the official launch of this year's e-Festival of
Ideas. We would like to cordially invite you and your youth networks to join us
on http://Vibewire.net/efestival to
partake in the conversation. The e-Festival is Ideas five days of
online discussion around democracy, media, arts and social change, live
and unmediated with special guests from around the world. Held in
conjunction with National Youth Week, this
year's e-Fest is jampacked with six great forums, with the following panel of
special relevance to Youthgas.
Please help us get the word out there to young people across the country.
Have your say and join the conversation!
Are you being heard? Youth voices
in local government.
What does civic participation mean to you? Is it
simply showing up and observing the proceedings or is it having your
voice heard and affecting real change?
This panel looks at the
role young people can play in their local democracy and their local
councils. It explores the existing approaches of local government in
engaging with youth and the development of online community consultation and
education practices.
Through
closer connections to physical communities, local governments can get
clearer reception than other levels of government when it comes to youth
perspectives on youth
issues. But what are some of the main problems facing consultation and
education initiatives, especially amongst typically disengaged young
people? And how can they be overcome?
Panellists include:
Matt Barker -
Communications Officer at UK-based International Centre for Excellence
in Local e-Democracy, a virtual Centre of Excellence, providing a local
point for advising and supporting local authorities and communities, to
enhance participation in all parts of the democratic process.

research background in youth health and technology
