As you would be aware, the Prime
Minister, the Hon Kevin Rudd MP, recently announced the
Australian Government’s intention to develop a National Strategy for Young
Australians. The Government’s
vision is for all young Australians to grow up safely, healthy, happy and
resilient and to have the opportunities and skills they need to learn, work,
engage in community life and influence decisions that affect
them.
The National Strategy for Young
Australians is being developed in consultation with young Australians, their
families, the youth sector, academics and the broader community through a
‘National Conversation’.
The Inspire Foundation
will be hosting two facilitated online Forums specifically for the youth
sector. These web chats will focus on the
discussion points around the National Strategy for Young Australians. The discussion paper is available on the
Australian Youth Forum Website www.youth.gov.au/ayf/
The online forums will
be held on:
Ø
Thursday 29 October 2009 12-2pm
(AESDST)
Ø
Thursday 29 October 2009 4-6pm (AESDST)
The Forums will be hosted through
the Act-Now website - http://www.actnow.com.au/ Places are limited to 30 participants
per web-chat, so if you are interested in participating you will need to
pre-register by emailing your contact details to the actnowstaff : actnowstaff@inspire.org.au
If you are unable to participate in
the online Forums there are a number of other ways you can get
involved:
Ø
Host Your Own

Youth Sector Organisations are
encouraged to host a forum with young people involved in their
organisation. Host Your Own Forum
kits are available on the AYF website – the kits include discussion topic
starters www.youth.gov.au/ayf/
Ø
youTHINK – Thursday 12
November
The youTHINK event will involve a national
interactive webcast that young people can log into from their computer network,
linking through the AYF website.
The event will ask young people to provide feedback on ideas and
suggestions for the National Strategy submitted through the National
Conversation and involve quick polls on their opinions.
Ø
Have a Say
The AYF website also includes
National Conversation topic starters on the Have a Say page of the AYF
website.
More information about the National
Conversation and the National Strategy for Young Australians is available on the
AYF website.
I hope you will be able to take
advantage of this opportunity to contribute to the development of the National
Strategy for Young Australians.
